By a vote of 32-16, with one abstention, the Knesset has approved the final reading of a bill that would send a terrorist under the age of 14 to a locked facility on a conviction for murder, attempted murder or manslaughter.
The current law states that a minor who has not yet reached the age of 14 cannot be imprisoned. However, the bill that passed tonight will amend the law and in the next three years, the courts will be allowed to send all minors convicted of serious crimes, regardless of their age, to closed facilities.
In accordance to the bill that passed tonight, the courts will be allowed to set discussions regarding the imprisoned juvenile while he or she is being held at a close facility.
